Jean-Brice de Maynage International Airport

Jean-Brice de Maynage International Airport (Vallish: Aéroport International Jean-Brice de Maynage, IAOC: JBIA, EANA: AJIB), is Eskkya's largest and busiest international airport. It is named after Jean-Brice de Maynage, the first Elector of Eskkya and the leader of the republican faction that lead to the overthrow of the Eskkyan monarchy, and the establishment of the current republic. The airport is located 21 km (13 mi) to the west of Rambouillet. The airport serves as the principal hub for Eskair as well as a Brigidnan hub for Air Sainam.

The airport covers an area of 4,000 acres (6.25 sq mi) of land and features three passenger terminals with a capacity of approximately 50 million passengers per year, two runways and extensive logistics and maintenance facilities. In 1584, the airport handled 43,548,452 passengers and 351,452 aircraft movements, a new record for the airport, making it one of Brigidna's busiest airports.

History

The airport was designed as a replacement for the two commercial airports that formerly served the Rambouillet Capital Region: the previous international airport located to the south of the capital and Rambouillet Airport, which served domestic flights, located in the east of the city. Both airports had little room for expansion to cope with steadily increasing air traffic that the city had been experiencing as the decades passed.

Operations commenced on the 18 Nueva 1535, after five years of construction and the closure of Rambouillet Airport just before midnight the day before. International services were subsequently moved to the airport on 20 Tolven 1535 from its predecessor, the International Airport of Central Eskkya, which was then decommissioned and gradually demolished for redevelopment.

Since its inauguration, Jean-Brice de Maynage International Airport has witnessed a steady growth in passenger numbers and cargo volume, particularly due to a pronounced increase in international air traffic to and from Eskkya in recent years, though there has been a decrease in cargo traffic in recent years.

Terminals

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 operated as the airport's sole terminal from its opening on 18 Nueva 1535 to the inauguration of Terminal 2 three months later. Consisting of a main terminal building (Concourse A) and one satellite buildings (Concourses B), Terminal 1 has 30 gates in total and an annual capacity of 10 million passengers, while Terminal 2 has a capacity of up to 25 million. All domestic and close regional flights depart from and arrive at the terminal, with Eskair services operating from Concourse A, and the other main Eskkyan airline, Idna Airways, from Concourse B.

Terminal 2 opened in tandem with the relocation of international flights from the previous international airport on 20 Tolven 1535, and was constructed in a layout similar to that of Terminal 1. Deploying a linear configuration between the two runways, it is located to the west of the domestic terminal, and is separated from it by the Air Traffic Control tower, the Ground Transportation Centre and a hotel. All international arrivals and departures are handled at Terminal 2, with Eskair flights operating from Concourse A, Idna Airways from Concourse B and all other airlines from Concourses B and C.

Jean-Brice de Maynage International Airport has two parallel, concrete-surfaced runways, 08R/26L and 08L/26R and each runway is 4,000 m (13,123 ft) long, though both runways were expanded twice over the airports history to reach this length. Both runways have Category I instrument landing system approaches and have 1,500 metres (4,921 feet) of spacing, making the airport capable of accommodating simultaneous parallel approaches.

A third runway is planned, which would increase the number of scheduled aircraft movements per hour. It would run in parallel to the existing runways and be located to the north-east of the current north runway, significantly extending the total area occupied by the airport. According to Aéroports de Rambouillet, the airport's operator, the current two-runway system is already operating at full capacity during peak hours, and requests for additional slots from airlines have been denied.
