Renowned as a leading financial hub within the region, Herlev ranks among the world's top financial centers. It hosts the national bank, Scholden Luftvaerks, the distinguished XDM Stock Exchange, numerous major commercial banks, and corporate entities.

Strategically positioned in Oslanburg and the wider region, Herlev serves as a critical nexus for air, rail, and highway transportation. Docrun Fenru International Airport, one of the world's busiest international airports, notably stands as the primary hub for Oslanburg's flagship carrier, Luft Wurberg. Additionally, Herlev Central Station, a key transport terminal, operates as one of the region's largest stations, managed by ONTT, facilitating 396 daily trains connecting domestic and regional destinations.

Beyond its prominence in finance and transportation, Herlev plays a multifaceted role in commerce, culture, education, and tourism. Herlev stands as Oslanburg's premier business and financial center, with its metropolitan area contributing 19% to the nation's gross domestic product. The city proper alone drives 10% of the country's GDP. Its nominal per capita GDP of $79,882 positions Herlev among the wealthiest cities in the nation, boasting a per capita GDP 1.3 times the national average.

The city's economic landscape centers predominantly on the tertiary sector, which employs nearly three-quarters of the capital's workforce. Major industries comprising finance, healthcare, tourism, information technology, media, pharmaceuticals, and retail thrive within Herlev. It serves as the headquarters for some of Oslanburg's largest financial institutions such as Curben Finans, Sydlige Nationalt Banken, and ByGruppe. Additionally, Gruner Multen stands as one of the largest telecommunications companies, and Teleos secures the rank of the second-largest private media entity within the city.

While industrial activity in Oslanburg has experienced a marked decline in recent years, Herlev maintains a residual industrial presence. Municipal government

The Municipality of Herlev stands as a distinct entity from the broader Herlev urban area. Herlev's municipal council convenes at the Herlev City Hall (Herlev Rådhus), serving as the administrative seat. At the helm is the Lord Mayor of Herlev, along with two selected vice-mayors, presiding over a council comprised of 15 representatives vested with civic duties.

The council meets regularly to deliberate on an array of matters ranging from labor, business development, economics, international collaboration, and information technology to urban planning, housing, healthcare, and traffic. A pivotal goal is to ensure the city's sustainability while striving to meet environmental and health objectives.

This major airport handles an impressive volume of approximately 96.3 million passengers each year. It plays a central role as the primary international hub for both of Oslanburg's largest airlines, Luft Wurberg, and Luft Trigal. Docrun Fenru International Airport boasts a comprehensive network of routes, connecting Herlev to over 100 international destinations.

In addition to Docrun Fenru, Herlev is also served by Herlev City Airport, situated around 10 kilometers south of the city center. Although this airport was the primary aviation facility for the city following its establishment in 1476, its role has shifted over the years. Presently, Herlev City Airport primarily accommodates domestic flights and offers limited international connections, catering to an annual passenger volume of 7,393,964 travelers.

When considering all airports with scheduled commercial services within the Herlev metropolitan region, these facilities collectively served 103.6 million passengers in 1585. Notably, over 92% of these passengers utilized Docrun Fenru International Airport.

Rail

Herlev relies on two main intercity rail stations—one catering to trains heading north and west, and the other facilitating trains bound for the south. The former holds the distinction of being the largest and busiest train station in the country. The Port of Herlev stands as Oslanburg's busiest in terms of passenger traffic and the second busiest for container traffic, following Aetinheim. It serves as a prominent cruise ferry port, offering regularly scheduled services to Florinthus and numerous other nations in both northern and southern Geinlund.
