History

The construction of Danylo Lysenko Airport, then named Bukanya International Airport, began in 1503 and was finished in 1506. During the Winter War it was first used by Union troops as a temporary military airfield, but was later captured by Kubanizan khorobri forces. In 1531, the airport was renamed Danylo Lysenko Airport to honor Danylo Lysenko, who served in the Winter War and was the most heavily decorated Kubanizan soldier in the war.
