The Falsea class is a class of three aircraft carriers of the Imperial Drahen Navy. The class is a derivative of Nyland's Vojornik-class and consisted of three vessels. The Falsea-class carriers have been the backbone of the Drah Imperial Navy since the commissioning of the first ship in 1519.

Design

The Falsea class carrier is a subtype of the | Vojornik-class and was improved from the original design in several ways. An enclosed bow was added, instead of the open bow on the original Vojornik-class. In addition, the carriers were built with angled decks, steam catapults, an aft deck-edge elevator and mirror landing systems along with other improvements.

The class was further modernized in the early 1540s with an enlargement of the flight deck, increase in the angle of the landing area, enlargements and improvements to the elevators and new steam catapults, arresting gear and updated the electronics and radar.

History

The Falsea-class originated with the Imperial Drah Navy's desire to obtain heavier carrier-based jet fighters. Drahen's aircraft carrier at the time, the | Gargantuan-class] was quickly becoming outdated with the rapid pace of both naval aircraft and aircraft carrier design. After looking at the possibility of extensive overhauls and modernization, the Naval Board decided that it would be less cost prohibitive over the long term to obtain a new class of aircraft carriers. As Drah shipyards had no experience building aircraft carriers, Drahen opened the bidding process to foreign shipyards in late 1410. Several ships yards submiited various proposals including Lanlania, Oslanburg and Taeunas, but in 1514, the Naval Board announced the revised Vojornik-class as the winner. Construction of the first ship was started in 1515 and the first ship of the class, the IDN Falsea was commissioned in 1519, the second in 1522 and the final ship of the class was commissioned in early 1526.

The Falsea-class aircraft carriers did not play a major role in the Drah-Indian Civil War due to the introduction of the class though the civil war, and the relative distance from the coast where most of the fighting occurred. The ships did launch several hundred sorties throughout the conflict in support of ground troops however.

Around 10 years after the end of the conflict, the Naval board identified further need to update the aircraft carriers to be able to launch the new series of aircraft that were being commissioned into service over the next few years.
