The de Rouvroy-Gionet War

On 12 Vintyr 942 Duke Gilbert II of Vaux declared war on Duke Henri IV of Troyes. His justification for the act of war was that Henri IV's bannermen had raided a Vauxian village, plundered it and burned it to the ground. The following month Gilbert II called his bannermen to his fortress Vaux sur la Montagne and marched to war with an army thirty-thousand men strong. The Vauxian army entered into Troyesier territory and attacked the village of Bois de Lac, burning it to the ground. Gilbert II's army encountered Henri IV's army, which was twenty-six thousand men strong, on the march to Troyes. The armies clashed on 15 Marth 943 in the Battle of Le Champ sous Troyes which resulted in a victory for Gilbert II. Henri IV army was all but destroyed: twelve thousand men dead, three thousand deserted and another four thousand injured including Henri IV's son and heir who was killed during the battle. The victorious army of Gilbert II would march on to besiege the city of Troyes, an affair that lasted a total of fifteen years ending on 1 Fein 958.

Treaty of Troyes

After Troyes' walls were seized, Gilbert II's forces entered and laid waste to the outer city. Duke Henri IV surrendered the Keep and inner city on 10 Fein 958. Gilbert II and Henri IV met inside the keep to sign the treaty that would end the war. Following the signing of the Treaty of Troyes on 11 Fein 958, the Duke of Vaux crowned himself the King of the Neuvantin. However, this was viewed as an act of treason by Gilbert II's liege, King Pierre the Holy of Kyrland. Lua error: Internal error: The interpreter exited with status 127.
