United Provinces of Adwest
The United Provinces (1197-1464) did not have a monarch, coming into existence by way of ridding itself of the institution. Its Ducal Council nonetheless periodically selected a Lord Chamberlain as primus inter pares and as the formal head of state and government of the country during its existence.
At the start of the 14th Century, the lords of the United Provinces began to group themselves into two factions. The first were the Golden Spears, favoring to varying degrees increasing political centralization in the face of external threats and challenges. The second were the Coronets, which favored the maintenance of the rather loose association which characterized the United Provinces since its inception. The feud between the two would lead to the Adwestene Civil War of 1462.

Grand Kingdom of Adwest
The Adwestene monarchy was formally restored in 1464 following the 1462 civil war. The House Durnador, lords of the Duchy of Ormbeck, seized power after subduing pro-confederate lords. It has since then ruled Adwest, embellishing their victory by labeling the monarchy as the Lazuli Throne.
