Sivelia, officially The Confederation of Sivelia (Vallish: Confédération de Sivélie, Milldish: Konfederatie van Sivelië) and formerly Protectorate of Great Vineta and Juliana Islands ruled by the Republic of Valland, is a sovereign confederation located in Skathia. Sivelia has a population of 29,6 million, bordering with Cyan to the west and the island of Cynesse to the north. The vast majority of the Sivelian population originates from the Brigidnan continent and especially from the Republic of Valland and the Commonwealth of Eskkya. Its capital city is the small insular town of Gustavia, though its largest being the city of Eastbourne followed by the conurbation of Shackleton-Harrispold.

The territory is strategically located up on the doorsteps of the Muraroa Bay, controlling all inward and outward movements. Sivelia is known for its maritime patrolling and its strict control of seagoing container flows. Several disputes have occurred between the confederation and other countries, mainly caused by disagreements on maritime borders and intrusions within the Sivelian exclusive economic zone. 14 military bases dispersed in different areas ensure national security.

Sivelian citizens enjoy good living standards and efficient public services. The active and flourishing economy provides Sivelians with a very high employment rate and remarkably good labour conditions. Industry is an important segment of the national economy, which specialises in export of civil aircrafts, military weapons and war vessels.

History

Leopold I, the first and only king of Great Vineta and Juliana Islands (1415-1452). King Leopold I is the remembered founder of the wealthy city of Havens Garden, but also the instigator of the Badapombo slum system.

Geography

Administrative divisions

Sivelia comprises of six autonomous sivels or regions. Education, health and transport are devolved matters. The Sivelian Constitution affords each region semi-autonomy and a parliament.

Gustavia, the small 26,000 inhabitant town holds the capital city status in the Confederation of Sivelia despite the crushing superiority of Eastbourne.

Home of the first settlements and explorations carried out by the King Gustave I of Valland, Juliana islands are nowadays the least densely populated area in Sivelia. The four largest islands are Mataveri, Monegu, Juliania, Aaruba and Koragu. There are many minor islands and islets close to the larger islands such as Floreal and Mooreaa. Only four in ten islands are populated and the island of Monegu hosts an important airbase known as "Muraroa Base". The local Julianese culture has suffered throughout the last centuries, namely because of the establishment of the parliament and the central power in the town of Gustavia.

Main cities

Template:Largest cities

The vast majority of Sivelians reside within the major cities (90%). Outside the main urban communities, the remaining 10% live in small villages scattered throughout the country, making Sivelia one the most urbanised states. Viewed as one of the principal factors in the increasing impoverishment of rural communities, infrastructure in such areas is still not properly developed.

The city of Badapombo (Pala-Bombo in Fulafula) is one of the topics which often emerge in discussions on extreme poverty in Sivelia. Badapombo is the physical outcome of systematic racial segregation in allocation of resources and neglection from the federal government in Gustavia. Historically, the black populations have been chased from white cities and sent to the north of Nova Escovia. Six different slums formed Badapombo, which is the city with the highest population growth rate in Sivelia.

The largest concentration of black Sivelians can be found in Badapombo.

Transport

Public transportation

Cities with a population of more than 400,000 are by law forced to offer a reinforced, fast and efficient public transport system such as tramway lines and a subway network if the metropolitan area covers a certain amount of square kilometers. A total of 3 cities have a subway system : Eastbourne, Shackleton-Harrispold and Polderdam. Smaller cities like Dillon, Transvaal, Bloemkust and Eideinn have a 2-8 line tramway system. Badapombo is the only urban area without a proper public transport system, mainly due to the city's inability to fund such a project and the lack of support the city receives from the central government.

Air transportation

The main airports in the confederation are: Easton-West, Polderdam-Princess Beatrix Intl., Dillon-Pionniers and Harrispold-City. Federal Sivelair (FSA) is the national state-owned carrier and operates daily national and international lines. Easton-West is FSA's main hub, from which long-haul flights depart. Regional flights are operated by the subsidiary company Sivelink.

Harrispold-City airport has a rather short runway (1854m)

Vehicular transportation

Sivelian big cities such as Eastbourne and Shackleton-Harrispold have a very developed infrastructure in terms of vehicular transport. Wide freeways and a well prepared urban planning are the key to their freely flowing traffic.

Railway transportation

Sivelia has three main hubs : Eastbourne, Dillon and Polderdam.

Industry

The leading industrial sectors in Sivelia are aerospace and defence, energy and ship building (war vessels). Due to its heavy investment in aircraft manufacturing, the national GDP enjoys of a good annual growing rate. The airport of Easton-West hosts the headquarters of the Sivelian aerospace corporation MacKenzie Strathclyde, which employs around 16,000 people. The corporation is going through an expansion process, aiming to open new production sites all over the world. The flat and arid lands of eastern Zaventaal and western Nova Escovia make the country an ideal location to carry out different types of tests, such as take off, landing and crash studies in order to establish the quality, performance, and reliability of MacKenzie Strathclyde's models. The harbour of Harrispold (Shackleton-Harrispold) is also a hot spot of the national industry with its important shipyards that provide the Sivelian army and other countries with war vessels.

The armaments industry is concentrated in the desert lands of Nova Escovia, closely supervised by the military. In fact, a state-owned firma is in charge of the business management, private business activity in this sector being strictly forbidden by law. Despite a certain criticism from public opinion and a controversial image, the armaments industry generates 5,8% of the GDP. If solely the public sector is entitled to the leadership of the national armament firma, Sivelian weapons are freely marketed throughout the world.

Besides, agriculture is a substantial segment of the Sivelian economy. The Free State of Zaventaal and Vineta are the largest producers of corn and meat. The northern lands of Leopold Bay are home to more cows than humans, leading 60% of the milk production in the confederation.

The population of the confederacy being concentrated in highly dense urban areas, there is much room to develop economic activities.

Languages

Capodistria, Leopold Bay

The Confederation of Sivelia is a multilingual country and comprises of three offical languages : Vallish, Milldish and Florinthian. Vallish is the main language of the government, spoken in Vineta, Juliana Islands and parts of Nova Escovia. Florinthian dominates the north (Eastbourne, Leopold Bay and part of Nova Escovia). Milldish is spoken in the half-west and its cultural capital is Polderdam. Tensions between Milldish speakers and other communities are known for reaching a certain level of violence, as nationalism rises in the Free State of Zaventaal.

In addition to the three official languages, other recognised languages are also spoken in the territory. Standard Eskon is largely used in the centre and east of Nova Escovia. In fact, Nova Escovia was founded to be the homeland of Esskyan colons and immigrants in Sivelia. Lomarren is spoken in the tiny region of L'Azzura, located in the top south of Leopold Bay. Capodistria is a Lomarren-majority city, and is considered to be the cultural capital of the Azzuran community.

Gastronomy

Seafood is undoubtedly the principal ingredient in the Sivelian gastronomy, which even today resists to the influences from abroad, where meat is the protagonist. Prawns, octopus, crayfish, sepia, barnacles and lobster.
